Sunday Sermon Notes

Sunday Sermon Notes

Jesus the teacher (the great commission)

Education has greatly benefited from the teaching and spread of the gospel
·         Because of the spread of the gospel the bible has been translated into roughly 3000 languages
·         There is a ministry still today that takes any un-written languages and creates it so the bible can be translated
·         The American education system was founded and funded by private churches not the government ( they just took in over and we see where it is today)
·         The first 123 colleges were private Christian colleges

Jesus and America and our economic system

·         The founding of our own nation was a religious experiment for those who worshiped and loved Jesus and wanted to experience complete religious freedom to worship him according to Scripture.
·          Our first President George Washington, curiously enough, at the moment of his inauguration, knelt and kissed the Bible and then led the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate to an Episcopalian church for a two hour worship service, commissioning the nation to the Lord Jesus Christ.
·         In our nation we believe in the Rule of Law. We believe in the Rule of Law because Scripture is a Book of Law. And it has laws that are to be obeyed and Jesus was a Teacher of the Law. Matt 5:17
·         Jesus upheld and enforced the concept of private property rights and private ownership. And we benefit under that and that is the central concept and the underpinning of our whole economic system, that we are a people that own and possess things and we have equality under the law for justice and we have private property rights to enable us to pursue economic wellbeing. The 10 commandments

Jesus’s effect on children

Before Jesus:
·         Life expectancy was only 8 years old
·         Infanticide was prominent
·         Child slavery was common
·         Babies were sometimes just discarded in the trash
·         Child abuse was rampant
After Jesus:
·         Jesus Loved Kids! Matt 18:5-7, 19:13-15,
·         Jesus Healed Kids! Matt 17:14
·         Kids Loved Jesus! Matt 21:15
·         Adoptions and orphans
o   Joseph (the adoptive example)
o   God as our adoptive Father Rom 8:16
o   Christianity all over the world cares for lost and in need children
o   We support Morning Star Ranch and the lost children of Hungary

Jesus taught us all that Kids are the key to understanding God and His love for us. Jesus transformed the way the world views children and made us to understand that they are a vital resource for us to cherish!

Jesus effect on women

Before Jesus:
·         Slaves
·         Personal property
·         Uneducated
·         Abused
After Jesus:
·         Jesus broke social taboos as to the education of women
·         Jesus broke social taboos about the befriending of women John 4: 7-23 (the woman at the well)
·         Jesus brought women in to ministry
·         Jesus loved and respected women Luke 7:13
·         Still today wherever Christianity is taught the status of women is raised

Because of Jesus women have been elevated, in Genesis it say “we are both male and female created in Gods image” and Jesus carried the torch for women throughout his ministry.

Jesus and Medicine, Mercy and Charity

·         Jesus was a miracle worker he healed the sick, the lame, the blind, the possessed  Luke 6:17-19, Luke 5:22-24
·         Jesus was the great physician Luke 5:31
·         Council of Nicaea in 325 the decree was made that everywhere a church was started there should also open a corresponding hospital. And that hospital should be for those who are poor, the working class, those who are elderly and infirmed and unable to care for themselves
·         Many hospitals today have Christian origins
·         Christian giving and work around the world is endless and is much higher that our non-Christian counter parts
·         We love people because we are taught to love one another John 15:12
·         Jesus had compassion on the needy, the down and out, the forgotten, and the discarded Matt 15:32, Luke 4:18-19
