Relections

" Denby  told NBC he found religious books a “wholly inappropriate” choice for private bedrooms in England’s modern, secular society. "

Spoke with a person the other day about America's move toward secular humanism. Our nation sits not too far behind the rest of the world for devaluing religion. When I read the above article about the trend of replacing the Bible in hotels with copies of romance novels, I had nothing but disappointment. It's sad news people take offense to our Bible. So much so, they justify its replacement with love stories.
Once Jesus was questioned by John the Baptist's disciples about his authority. These disciples wanted to know whether or not they should openly proclaim Jesus as messiah. In response:

Luke 7:21-23 (MSG)
In the next two or three hours Jesus healed many from diseases, distress, and evil spirits. To many of the blind he gave the gift of sight. Then he gave his answer: "Go back and tell John what you have just seen and heard:

   The blind see,
   The lame walk,
   Lepers are cleansed,
   The deaf hear,
   The dead are raised,
   The wretched of the earth
have God's salvation hospitality extended to them.
"Is this what you were expecting? Then count yourselves fortunate!"

Some versions loosely translate the last line as stating, "Those who are not offended by Jesus, receive his blessings." Which would imply to a great deal that those who are offended by our savior are on the wrong path--in the very least will not have the blessings God has in store.    John refers to Jesus as God's word among us. It is evident from the Gospel that Jesus wants to  bless; he wants to establish a foundation in us(Luke 6:46-49). He states that out of our store-house comes good or evil (Luke 6:43-45).
Each one of us need to ask ourselves, does the  Bible offend us? Do we want it hidden? Because what happens in England is not far from happening here.
