The Road to Romans!
Do you fear GOD!
Romans 3:9–20
(ESV)
9What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at
all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin,
10as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not
one;
11no one understands; no one seeks for God.
12All have turned aside; together they have become
worthless; no one does good, not even
one.”
13“Their throat is an open grave; they use their
tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.”
14“Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
15“Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16in their paths are ruin and misery,
17and the way of peace they have not known.”
18“There is no fear of God before their
eyes.”
19Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to
those who are under the law, so that
every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.
20For by works of the law no human being
will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
What I would like to do is deconstruct
this backwards and explain what Paul is trying to say about the lack of our
ability to be justified in Gods eyes!
Through the Law, God brought us the knowledge of
Sin!
Vs20b
Since through the law
comes knowledge of sin.
SO what does this mean??
·
Does it mean
that we now know what sin is so now we can avoid it?
·
That the law
shows us how to live??
No, I think there is more to it than that and here
is where I found it!
Romans 7:7–8
(ESV)
7What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no
means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known
what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
8But sin, seizing an opportunity through the
commandment, produced in me all kinds of
covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead.
·
The law shows
us our sin
·
It shows us how
bad we really are
·
We see our sin
in vivid color when compared to the law
·
Without the law
sin would go unrecognized!
There is no Justification through works of the law!
Vs 20a
20For by works
of the law no human being will be justified in his sight
·
Because we know
that the law bring knowledge of sin we know it can’t bring us justification!
·
In a heart not
restored it brings rebellion
·
It brings sin
out, it reveals it
·
So the law
brings condemnation
·
Why doesn’t the
law have that power, the power to redeem us?
Romans 8:7–8
(ESV)
7For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.
8Those who are in the flesh cannot
please God.
By itself
the Law just brings out sin, not faith, and when it does, it is death-giving,
not life-giving (Romans 7:9-10).
So it can't justify us. It can only condemn us; only Jesus can bridge the gap
between condemnation and salvation!! Jesus is the
Through the law the whole world will be held
accountable
Vs 19
19Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to
those who are under the law, so that
every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.
·
The Jews had
the law from the beginning and how well did they do with it??
·
If the ones who
have had it for the longest didn’t become justified in Gods sight then what
will happen to us?
·
This is God
showing us that no matter how long we have it we will never stop sinning
·
And because of
that he will hold the whole world accountable to it!
·
Every mouth
will be stopped
·
All will be
judged by the law!
Read Romans
7:11-14
They lost the fear of God!
Vs 18 18“There is
no fear of God before their eyes.”
·
They lost the
fear of God!
·
So has this
country
·
We don’t have a
health fear of the Judgment of God
·
We don’t think
about we will be held accountable
·
That leads us
to sin, to worship something other than God
·
When we worship
something other than God that gives Satan a foot hold
So what’s the Implications of all this??
Here it is in a nut shell!
1. The whole world is guilty before God!
·
I am guilty
·
Your Guilty
·
Your whole
family is Guilty
·
The clerk at
the store is guilty
·
All your
neighbors are guilty!
·
This should be
awake up call to you that everyone you meet some day will stand before a holy
God and be held accountable for everything they say and do!
2. No one will be able to raise a valid objection to
Gods judgment!
·
We know that
Gods reveals himself to every heart!
Romans 1:20
(ESV)
20For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal
power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation
of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
·
It doesn’t
matter if you say no one told me
·
It doesn’t
matter where you live
·
If someone lied
to you about it
·
You have no
excuse!
Romans 2:15
(ESV)
15They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears
witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them
3. Every person who speaks against God will one day
be silenced!
·
Every mouth
will be stopped!
·
All the people
today who are speaking against God will on day die and stand before God and be
silenced!
Isaiah 2:17
(ESV)
17And the haughtiness of man shall be humbled, and the
lofty pride of men shall be brought low, and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.
4. Don’t fear man, all his criticizing will be
silenced!
1 Peter 5:6
(ESV)
6Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand
of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,
·
Stay strong in
your faith
·
Hold fast to
Jesus
·
Stay God
Saturated
·
Today might be
hard, times might be tough, people might say harsh things because of your faith
·
But God will
Silence them!
So what hope do we have?
Romans
3:21–22 (ESV)
21But now the righteousness of God has been manifested
apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—
22the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus
Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:
The answer: Yes and His name is Jesus!
·
Our hope lies in Jesus
·
The only way to turn from a life of Sin is Jesus
1 Timothy
1:15 (ESV)
15The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full
acceptance, that Christ Jesus came
into the world to save sinners, of
whom I am the foremost.
