1 John
2:28-3:10
Are you a child of God, or are you the spawn of Satan??
Remember
our three themes in this book:
1.
Theological: do you know God?
2.
Moral: do you hate sin?
3.
Social: do you want to be
with God People, do you love others?
1 John 2:28 (NIV)
28 And
now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be
confident and unashamed before him at his coming.
·
Children
o He is talking to believers,
like us!
o Young in the word
and vulnerable
·
Continue in Him
o This is a ugly world
o And we must keep our
walk in forward motion
o Sin will always
happen, but as Christians we must continue to try and grow and help others grow
in Jesus’s likeness
o Sin is going to
continue. People will be broken and crooked and flawed.
o Bad things are going
to happen because people do bad things to one another until something dramatic,
cataclysmic happens, and that’s when Jesus comes back
·
Unashamed before him
at his coming
o We have to continue
to grow, so that we can stand before God and be confident that we tried to walk
with Him
o Don’t get to the end
of your life and worry about standing before God
How comforting! Take
your place as a child. Don’t expect to be mature yet. But do continue in Him.
Do keep on growing. And as you mature, you will come to the place of victory
over sins.
Jesus is coming back
and we need to be preparing. How many of you if Jesus came back today would be
ready and feel confident. Or would you say
opps!, There is Jesus look Holy!!
1 John 2:29 (NIV) If you know that he is righteous, you
know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.
·
We
are born again in his image
·
Like
all creatures we have to grow out of our old sin nature
Paul says it best!
2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV) God made him who had no sin to
be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Jesus did all the work;
we just have to continue to grow in our walk with Jesus!
1 John 3:1 (NIV)
See
what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called
children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us
is that it did not know him.
·
See what great love the Father has lavished
on us, that we should be called children of God!
o Do you know that you’re
loved?
o That you’re loved by
the God in heaven, the God who created everything and he chose you
o He uses the word
lavished, when is the last time you were lavished with anything Good??
o We are all in God
family, we are all children of God!
How
many of you knew that God is a Father, and he loves you, and he adopts you into
his family as his children? Paul’s great language in Romans, you’re adopted
into the family of God, that God is your Father, and God is a Father who loves
you, cares for you. He’s for you. He’s a good God. And that is what we are, we’re
the children of God, Who are loved and given the righteousness of the Lord
Jesus.
·
The reason the world does not know us
is that it did not know him.
o We live in a world
of People and people are not nice
o We live in a world
where billons of people don’t understand why we think the way we think
o How many of you do
you have friends and family that think you crazy for following Jesus
o How many of you are persecuted
at work or home for your faith
o We are different
from the world, we have different values and goals
o They rest of the
world needs to meet Jesus!
So
our goal as Christians should never be to get people to understand us, but to
get people to meet and understand Jesus, because once they do, everything all
will fall into place, and they’ll totally know where we’re coming from.
1 John 3:2 (NIV) Dear friends, now we
are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known.
But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him
as he is.
·
What we will be has not yet been made known.
o DO you know what you
will be like in heaven
o I don’t
o I can’t imagine life
without sin
o Without false
motives
o Without pride
o Without locking my
doors, or worrying about my kids
o Life in one
harmonious relationship with Jesus
·
We shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
o We will finally see
Jesus Face to Face!!
o No more sickness
o No more hurt
o Just pure worship!!
1 John 3:3 (NIV) All who have this hope in him purify
themselves, just as he is pure.
·
We
have done a really bad Job in America when it comes to faith in Jesus
·
We
have to purify ourselves
o It’s not the
churches job
o It’s not your
pastors Job
o It’s your Job
·
Its
starts with Repentance
·
We
must get our hearts right with God
·
We
have to seek forgiveness and get cleaned up for the day of Jesus’s return!
1 John 3:4–6 (NIV) Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact,
sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take
away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning.
No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
·
Everyone who sins breaks the law;
o Think of like a Gods
your dad, and we want to be like dad
o If you keep sinning
God keeps disciplining
o He gave us laws for
our protection
o Just because we are “grown
up” doesn’t mean we can be our own God
o We need Gods rules to
keep us in a right relationship with him
o Like a child we need
God to guide us and rebellious and is not a child of God!
·
in him is no sin
o Jesus was the only
perfect human ever!
o Perfect doesn’t mean
we don’t make mistakes
o We all need to
strive to be more like Jesus and we can’t if We don’t know Him
·
No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known
him.
o To know Jesus means
we strive to be like Him
o We repent of Sin
o We seek forgiveness
o And we continue on
o There are a lot of
people who claim to be Christian’s and are not
Do
you continually sin? Are you striving to be like Jesus? Do you know Him? You have
to ask these questions, you have to search your heart. God see you right there
and like a Good dad he wants to have a relationship with you. Are you a good
kid or a bad kid? Only you can answer that question, only you know your heart!
